The three bets and what they cost
| Bet | Pays | House edge (8 decks) |
|---|---|---|
| Banker | 1 to 1, less 5% commission | 1.06% |
| Player | 1 to 1 | 1.24% |
| Tie | 8 to 1 | 14.36% |
The banker bet wins slightly more often than the player bet, which is why the casino takes a commission on it. Even with the commission it stays the cheaper bet. The tie pays well but loses so often that it costs more than ten times as much per bet.
What new variants change
- Speed baccarat: the same rules with shorter betting windows. More hands an hour means more money staked, and the house edge applies to each one.
- Squeeze baccarat: the dealer reveals cards slowly. The odds are unchanged.
- Lightning and multiplier versions: random multipliers on some winning hands, paid for by a fee on every bet or lower base payouts. Check the stated RTP.
- Side bets such as Player Pair or Dragon Bonus carry a far higher house edge than the main bets.
Live tables from Evolution and other studios are common at new casinos. Pick a table with a minimum stake that fits your budget before you sit down.
Why betting systems do not help
Martingale doubles after each loss, Fibonacci follows a number sequence and 1-3-2-4 raises stakes after wins. None of them alters the probability of the next hand. They only reshape how you win and lose: many small wins and the occasional large loss, which with Martingale can hit the table limit or your budget within a few hands.
A worked example: start Martingale at €5 and lose seven hands in a row, which happens about once in every 280 sequences on the banker bet. Your next stake would be €640, and you would already be €635 down.
Bankroll and bonuses
- Set a session budget and keep each bet to 1% to 2% of it.
- Check how baccarat counts towards bonus wagering. Many casinos count table games at 10% or less, and some exclude them.
- Use free demo versions, where the casino offers them, to learn a new variant's rules.
